Orbis, the global non-governmental organization, in partnership with PBMA’s H.V. Desai Eye Hospital, has launched a one-of-a-kind Green Vision Center (GVC) in Satara, Maharashtra. The center is pioneering a sustainable approach to primary eye care, providing affordable and quality optical services to the communities while maintaining environmental responsibility.
The GVC is a game-changer for primary eye care, utilizing clean solar-powered electricity, energy-efficient electrical fixtures, and digital data management to provide a unique approach to optical services. The facility also aims to tackle long-term challenges such as data management, with digital software that provides real-time data and improves continuity of care while reducing paper use.
Derek Hodkey, President, and CEO of Orbis International, noted that the GVCs are the next step towards achieving uninterrupted access to eye health services, aligned with the sustainable development goals. Orbis and PBMA’s H.V. Desai Eye Hospital have been partners for over two decades, providing ophthalmic treatments and reaching out to communities in need. With the GVC, they offer a new approach that transforms the delivery of primary eye care, bringing it closer to communities and sustaining the impact delivered.
