Apollo Hospitals Navi Mumbai’s recent accomplishment of its eighth successful heart transplant showcases how the hospital harnesses medical technology to save lives. In this particular case, a 40-year-old patient was suffering from the debilitating condition of Amyloidosis, which had caused irreversible heart failure.
The hospital was informed about a potential donor at a South Mumbai hospital on April 4th, 2023. Within a critical time frame, the hospital, with the assistance of the traffic control police, Mumbai & Navi Mumbai, transported the donor heart via a green corridor, covering a distance of 40 km in a mere 46 minutes. With the help of modern medical technology, the heart transplant was successful, and the patient is now in recovery.
Dr. Sanjeev Jadhav, Consultant, CVTS, Heart & Lung Transplant Surgery at Apollo Hospitals Navi Mumbai, credited the success to medical technology and teamwork, stating, “From the retrieval of the donor’s heart to its successful implantation in the recipient, the Apollo transplant team worked in perfect synchrony, ensuring the heart was safely transported, carefully preserved, and expertly transplanted, all within a critical time frame.”
